The Grand Canyon is a magnificent feature in the landscape fabric of the United States. We have all heard of the large raft whitewater adventure, Today we look at three different ways to enjoy this national treasure.
- Discover by foot
- Discover by mule
- Discover by rail
Walk Your Way
When hiking down the Grand Canyon, whether a day hike up and down, or an overnight camping experience, you won’t forget it.
You get to see the geology up close and personal when embarking on this journey. You crisscross you way down a narrow trail that has occasional rest stops. You go back in time with each step. This is not an easy trail. Temperatures get very high and dehydration is a formidable risk. Good news is the Park is well prepared to respond to any emergencies. Being able to touch those ancient bones makes this a life memory.
Let the Mule do it!
Hiking the trail down is a great personal approach to experiencing the Canyon. One surprise is that you get to share the sheer pathway with the mule traffic. These trusty creatures may be a safer option for navigation the terrain. If you are not in the best shape, have a family, a group or just like the idea, This is still an up close and personal experience.
You have to make your plans for specific activities provided by the National Park, and other entities well in advance. If your group has an interest in exploring the canyon in a rugged, safe way, the mules are for you. Both the hiking and mule ride take you from the top of the canyon down to the Colorado river. The geology is astounding and hard to find elsewhere on earth. Both are experiences you’ll never forget
The Canyon Express
Hiking or riding down on a Mule gives you the Canyon/Mountain Top experience for sure, but there is yet another way to experience the Grand Canyon. Make sure to give yourself 3 days if you want the full experience. There are now Rail services that provide you a 10 hr. or 1 Day Train Rides along the Canyon itself. This is the Horizontal experience. You get to see the beautiful features and come to grips with how truly immense this natural treasure is.
The above link is to Sedona They offer the one way Grand Canyon railway experience.

It appears they go back and forth from Sedona to Flagstaff. Bare in mind this is a one way ticket. Sounds like you would have to purchase a return ticket. I would call to verify that. Though a little pricier than the foot or hoof options, this one is filled with breathtaking vistas and unforgettable experiences.
